Without appropriate medical, political, and social resistance, Covid-19 can cause unimaginable harm to a vulnerable country like India. The design of such comprehensive resistance requires a clear understanding of how the disease is spreading in India. There are two obvious dimensions of disease spread – spatial and temporal. We need to possess a good sense of how Covid-19 is spreading in different parts of India over time in order to formulate appropriate corrective policies.
This website makes an initial attempt to chart – in real-time – the evolution of Covid-19 in different parts of India over the months of March and April 2020. Specifically, we plan to upload a series of reports (possibly one in every two-to-three days) that will record primary, secondary, and tertiary Novel Coronavirus infections in every district in India. Having documented the distribution of the stock of Covid infections across India at discrete points in time (our first report contains information as of 3 pm on March 29), we will discuss some tentative conclusions that can be drawn regarding the nature of disease transmission and regarding effective policy responses. |
